Right at the heart of the Ruhr metropolis is where KERN Katholische Einrichtungen Ruhrgebiet Nord GmbH had its beginnings and has its future. We are a strong Catholic partnership for medicine, patient/senior care and education, and an employer committed to our experts from a wide range of professions at a total of about 35 locations in Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum-Wattenscheid, Gladbeck, Bottrop-Kirchhellen, Herten-Westerholt, Dorsten, Marl und Haltern am See.

With a workforce of some 7,500 people, we are one of the biggest employers in the region. Altogether we have employees from more than 70 fields working at our various operating companies and facilities. And in order to be able to continue providing the best nursing and medical care in the future, too, we attach great importance to training, not only in the classic medical and nursing professions, but also in jobs requiring a CCI apprenticeship.
Day in, day out, our staff use their knowledge in the following areas:
- Hospitals
- Senior citizens’ centres, care facilities, old people’s and nursing homes
- Childcare and youth centres, child and youth welfare institutions, (woodland) nursery schools
- Outpatient care
- Holdings: Humanitas Pflegedienst (providers of home care), Kirchliches Bildungszentrum für Gesundheitsberufe im Revier (Church-run education centre for health workers), St. Elisabeth Bildungsinstitut für Gesundheitsberufe GmbH, KKRN-aktiv e.V.
Training and career
We train the skilled staff of tomorrow in the field of care: commercial clerks, nursery teachers and childcare workers, IT specialists, surgical assistants, radiology assistants and specialist doctors.
